2012 end of the world and backwards timetravel?

Well this may sound stupid, but a lot of people say that if backwards time travel was possible then we would be visited by people from the future, but what if there was no future for this to happen, lets just say that the end of the world was going to happen in 2012(It most likely will not ) then there would be no time travel.
Am i babbling on about crap or could that be a reasonable possibility, like, not necessarily that Nibiru wipes us about but another disaster?
